✉ JAPON. 1880. Native ornamented cover bearing Old Koban 1 s. and 4 s. (Sc 58, 68) tied by TOSA-KOCHI MAY 22 cds (nijiumaru type) to SHANGHAI, China. Nagasaki May 31 transit cds and IJPA Shanghai Jun 2 received cds on front. Early use of this native style cover to China is highly unusual, as most were of western style. A very rare cover with clear cancels.

IMPERFORATE COAT-OF-ARMS (3-11). 12 1/2 c. rose horizontal pair, clear shade, large margins on three sides, tied by LUXEMBOURG cds to 1866 (3 Jan.) envelope to ZWEIBRÜCKEN (4.1) via Trier (3.1), showing framed "PD" handstamp adjacent, very fine and rare franking (apparently only 3 or 4 pairs known on cover), paying the double rate to Germany.
