✉ PANAMA. 1856. PANAMA to BOGOTA (Colombia). Entire letter addressed to General Tomas de Mosquera, President of Colombia (1842-45), carried privately from Panama to Colon where prepaid "4" (pence) in red crayon and struck with superb PAID / AT / COLON handstamp in red with equally superb double arc COLON datestamp on reverse. Transferred to the Colombian Post and struck with oval CARTAGENA / DEBE and charged 1 1/2 pesos. Light file fold as usual and irrelevant. An extraordinary cover, one of only three recorded and this is the best quality example. Ex col. Santamaria.
