✉ GIBRALTAR. 1827. CHICLANA (Cádiz, Spain) to MALTA. Entire letter sent via the British Consulate at Cadiz. B.C./CADIZ mark and fine red GIBRALTAR arc. At this time Cadiz was blockaded by French Ships, the British Packets could not call at Cadiz to collect mail. Instead it was courriered to Gibraltar for onward transmission. Charged "6" on arrival. A VERY RARE cover, only two known with both marks.

Red manuscript ´8´ denoting single rate of 8d. prepaid, reverse with framed ´Liverpool/Ship´ (June 17) and arrival cds. Displays well.

Cover with original contents sent from the General Spanish Consul in Malta to the Duke of San Carlos (General Supervisor of the Spanish Post). Very interesting text, includes the Post accounts of the Middle East courier (years 1812 to 1814) and a rare manuscript Bill of Exchange of 200.000 Reales de vellón, drawn against the Supervisor of the Post Office. Extraordinary document of Postal History in very good condition.
