Printed Matter rate entire letter from ROME to FRANCE bearing three margined 1853 10c. bistre tied by GRILL handstamp in black, superb impression of circular CORPS D´EXPEDITIONAIRE D´ITALIE/2E DIVISION datestamp alongside. Reverse with Cette-Bordeaux transit and arrival cds. Adhesive with three margins only but an exceedingly rare rate from this Occupation. Signed Calves.

ROME to SYDNEY (Australia) via British Military Camp ´Aldershot´, 1852 6 baj. black on grey with 50 baj. blue, tied by GRIDS to lettersheet from ROMA 19 NOV 859 via the British Military Camp Aldershot where it was re-addressed, franked with a Great Britain 1856 6d. lilac (Scott 27; SG 70) for the onward postage to the Archbishop of Sydney Rev. Dr. Polding, the letter was carried by P. & O. packet PERA to Alexandria, then overland crossing the desert with camels and donkeys to Suez, reaching P. & O. packet NORTHAM to Sydney with arrival marking FE 9 1860, then forwarded to Mudgee (NSW), but finally returned to Sydney on March 19 1860; the GB 6d uncancelled in error because the postman at Farnboro Station cancelled the Papal States 6 baj. instead. Minor imperfections as usual and 6 baj. with small corner fault, otherwise Very Fine. 2016 K. Louis BPP Certificate. Ony 7 re-addressed combination covers with Papal States & GB frankings are recorded in the Karl Louis card index register of which only 4 bear the rare 50 baj. adhesive stamp, and 3 are from the correspondence to the Archbishop of Sydney Dr. Polding (John Bede Polding 1794-1877). (Illustrated in ´Letter Mail from and to the Old Italian States´ by Mentaschi-Matha pág. 245).

Blue ´St. Michel´ entry marking (April 5) also on obverse of a fine mixed issue three colour franking to an unusual destination. Certs. A. Carta manuscrita y firmada por el famoso músico GIOACCHINO ROSSINI, dirigida a su amigo el abogado Filippo Santocanale, diputado de la VIII Legislatura del Parlamento Italiano a quien relata sus problemas de salud durante su estancia en París. La envuelta con todo el texto completo y franqueada con una tira de cinco más un sello de 20 cts. azul, más un sello de 10 cts. ocre para completar la tarifa de 1,20 Fr. a Italia. Mat. de puntos gruesos. Excepcional e inédita carta del célebre músico italiano, una de las pocas conocidas en manos privadas que conservan el franqueo original. Cert. de autenticidad del grafólogo Sebastiano Cilio (podemos proporcionar una transcripción completa de la carta).

The adhesives being applied over the ´30´ tax marking originally charged and paid. An unusual entire.
